Starting a Holistic Remedy Kit – Essential Oils

So there are TONS of different types of oils out there and we encourage you to collect and try them all! We have listed just a few of our favorites to keep handy and to start stocking up your very own holistic remedy kit. It all starts with the basics;


Clove Essential oil

Clove essential oil offers antioxidant, anti fungal, anti-parasitic and antibacterial properties. This essential oil will be your best friend if you have a toothache, as it can help to treat the infection. Clove essential oil also helps battle stress, headaches and ease nausea.

So if you ever have a toothache in the middle of the night grab that clove oil until you can get in to see your dentist!

Just a few ways to use it …

  • A few drops of clove oil on a cotton ball, place on sore tooth and bite down.
  • Face wash; 3 drops clove essential oil mixed with 2 tsp raw honey.
  • Fresh Breath Spray; 2 drops clove and peppermint essential oils in a cup of water. Put it in a small spray bottle to take on the go.
  • Defusing cloves can help relieve nausea and vomiting.
  • Natural insect repellant;  Mix 5-10 drops of clove oil into 8 oz of coconut oil. Apply it to the face, hands, and legs before stepping out of the house and leave the pests behind.
  • Combat fatigue; diffuse or apply a drop or two with a teaspoon of carrier oil (Coconut, hemp, avocado) and apply to reflex points.
  • Bath Salts; add a few drops of clove oil into the bathwater to relieve muscle fatigue.
  • Earaches Be Gone! 2 drops of clove oil in 1 teaspoon sesame oil warmed to body temperature. Use a dropper to administer 1 -2 drops of the mixture into the effected ear.
  • Relieve respiratory problems; steam inhalation therapy with a combination of 2-3 drops of clove and eucalyptus oil added to water. This will help to open up the airways and help you breathe easy.
    • You can make a chest rub with 5 drops of clove and eucalyptus oil. 10 drops of lemon oil, 6 oz of coconut oil as the base with some melted beeswax to thicken the mix.


 Chamomile Essential oil

Well first of all there are two type of chamomile and they both do something completely different. Roman chamomile tends to be more calming while German chamomile is considered to be a powerful anti-inflammatory agent.

Chamomile has many beneficial properties; antibiotic, antispasmodic, antiseptic, antidepressant, sedative and analgesic. It can also help to alleviate anxiety, tension, stress and can even aid in healing irritated skin.

Just a few ways to use it …

  • Add 1-2 drops to your favorite moisturizers, shampoo, conditioner to promote youthful looking skin and hair.
  • 1-2 drops of oil into any herbal tea or hot drink to soothe the body and mind.
  • Aid in a restful nights sleep by applying a drop to the bottom of your feet before bed.
  • Helps to reduce anxiety by applying a drop to your temples.
  • Diaper rash; create an at home cure to diaper rash. With coconut oil, chamomile, lavender essential oils will help to soothe your littles behind.

Eucalyptus Essential oil

Eucalyptus oil definitely takes the cake when it comes to respiratory issues. It can help relieve sinusitis, bronchitis, and allergies, reducing congestion and improve mental clarity all at the same time. Eucalyptus essential oil includes antibacterial, anti – inflammatory, antiseptic, antispasmodic and decongestant properties. Due to it’s antimicrobial properties it makes a wonderful addition to any homemade cleaning recipe.

Just a few ways to use it …

  • Add 10 drops of eucalyptus essential oil, 2 tablespoons of liquid Castile soap and hot water to the mop bucket to clean your floor.
  • Add 2 to 3 drops eucalyptus to 1 tablespoon coconut oil and rub into your chest when you have a cold.
  • Add 5 drops to your diffuser to clean and freshen the air.
  • Add 5 drops each of eucalyptus and tea tree oil to a 16 oz. glass spray bottle full of water and spray down your shower after each use to inhibit mold growth.
  • Mix 3 to 4 drops into your pet’s shampoo to keep away fleas.


Frankincense Essential oil

This exotic oil helps to reduce inflammation, aid in menstrual cycle, shorten the life cycle of a cold, build immunity, heal age spots, fight cancer and support brain health. So basically what were saying is use this every day! Frankincense is most frequently used as a disinfectant, antiseptic, diuretic, expectorant, and an sedative.

“If in doubt, use frankincense.”

Just a few ways to use it …

  • Apply 1 drop to minor cuts to speed healing and relieve pain.
  • Apply 1 drop to bug bites and stings for immediate pain and itch relief.
  • Apply to temples with lavender to relieve stress and headaches.
  • Apply 1 drop to the temples or bottoms of the feet daily for immune system support.
  • Apply 1 to 2 drops neat to scars on a daily basis to reduce their appearance.
  • Massage 2 drops mixed with 1 tablespoon coconut oil to soothe painful muscles and joints.

 Grapefruit Essential oil

Grapefruit essential oil offers a variety of properties as it is considered to be a tonic, a disinfectant, stimulant, antiseptic and antidepressant. It helps to support a well running metabolism, while offering a stimulating effect on the mind to help improve mental clarity and memory.

Just a few ways to use it …

  • When inhaled (Aromatherapy) grapefruit oil can help cub hangovers, headaches, mental fatigue and depression.
  • Acne Treatment; add a few drops into your daily moisturizer to help reduce oils and acne.
  • Grapefruit oil makes a wonderful air freshener as well.
  • Use it in your cleaning supplies. Add a few drops to add a little cleaning boost!
  • Massage oil; Mix a few drops into some coconut oil to use as a massage oil. Apply. This will help relieve muscle, joint pain, menstrual cramps and headaches.
  • Kid safe!


Lavender Essential oil

Lavender is known to aid in a number of different illnesses which is why it is always the number 1 essential oil to have in the closet. Lavender essential oil can help speed up the healing process in cuts, burns, rashes and stings. It can decrease anxiety, reduce inflammation and promote better sleep. Lavender is analgesic, antifungal, antiseptic, sleep inducing and a disinfectant.

Just a few ways to use it …

  • Add 5 to 8 drops to 3 oz. of water, 1oz witch hazel in a mini spray bottle and spritz on pillows and linens before bed to aid in sleep.
  • Mix 2 drops each lavender and frankincense in 1 tablespoon coconut oil and apply to temples to take away headaches and relieve stress.
  • Apply undiluted lavender essential oil to fresh cuts, scrapes and wounds to speed healing and kill bacteria.
  • Make homemade cleaners.
  • Diffuse 5 drops in your house to promote peace and calm.
  • Add 2 to 3 drops to one cup of epsom salts and stir into a hot bath for extra relaxation.

Lemon Essential oil

If you like to make your own home cleaning agents then lemon essential oil is a must! Lemon oil is an amazing natural cleaner with a strong purifying citrus cent that helps to uplift and revitalize. It can also be used topically to help beat things like mental fatigue, nervous tension, exhaustion, anxiety by helping to refresh your mind.

Just a few ways to use it …

  • Add 1 drop to 1 teaspoon of honey to soothe a dry or sore throat.
  • Diffuse 5 drops in a room to kill nasty odors and to lift your mood.
  • Apply 1 to 2 drops neat to remove sticky residue (either from your hands or surfaces).
  • Use 3 to 5 drops to remove gum from fabric (or hair).
  • Mix 5 drops with 4 oz. unscented liquid dish soap for extra grease-cutting action.
  • Kid safe!

Apply topically with caution if you’re putting it on skin that will be exposed to the sun – it may cause sensitivity.


Oregano Essential Oil

This one you may not use as often but when you need it you will be glad to have it on hand. Oregano has powerful antibacterial properties, and, while it will leave you smelling like pizza, it’s great at helping your body fight illness.

Just a few ways to use it …

  • 2 drops oregano oil in 1 tablespoon coconut oil and rub onto toenails plagued with stubborn fungus twice a day until its gone.
  • 2 drops oregano in 1 tablespoon coconut oil and dab on skin tags to remove them.
  • Apply 1 to 2 drops, to the bottoms of the feet when you’re fighting a bacterial infection (every 4 to 6 hours).
  • Add 1 to 2 drops to homemade cleaners for potent germ-killing properties,
  • Psoriasis; mix with a carrier oil and apply topically twice daily.
  • Insect Control; not only do they not like oregano oil but it will also soothe older bites at the same time.
  • Diaper Rash; Mix with coconut oil to sooth and heal diaper rash.
  • Arthritis; dilute in a carrier oil and rub onto painful joints to decrease swelling
  • Ringworm; apply 3-6 drops directly on worm to kill.


Orange Essential Oil

Most people love to use this for just it’s amazing smell but you will be pleased to know that it also has lots of great properties. it’s antibacterial, anti- inflammatory, sedative, and used for digestive upset.

Just a few ways to use it …

  • Mix 1 drop with 1 tablespoon coconut oil and rub onto an infant’s upset tummy for relief (a stronger mix can also be used on adults).
  • Massage 2 to 3 drops mixed with 1 tablespoon coconut oil onto the chest at the onset of a cold.
  • Diffuse 3 drops wild orange and 2 drops lavender for a soothing effect.
  • Diffuse 5 drops in any room to kill bacteria.
  • Mix 3 drops wild orange, 3 drops peppermint and 20 drops liquid carrier oil in a roller bottle. and rub on the back of the neck for help with focus.


Peppermint Essential oil

Aside from making your house smell all jolly like the holiday’s this is an incredibly versatile essential oil. Peppermint essential oil can help to boost your energy levels, improve focus, reduce fever and headache, nausea, provide muscle pain relief.  This oil is also antiseptic, analgesic, a stimulant, anesthetic and antispasmodic.

Just a few ways to use it …

  • Apply 1 drop to temples and forehead to relieve pain. Don’t get it in your eyes. Trust me, they use this stuff in pepper-spray guys!
  • Add 5 to 7 drops to a 16 oz. glass spray bottle of water and witch hazel to use as a cooling spritz when it’s hot out.
  • Inhale deeply from the bottle of pure essential oil to relieve nausea.
  • Apply 1 to 2 drops to the bottoms of feet to reduce fevers.
  • Add 5 to 7 drops to a 16 oz. glass spray bottle full of water and spray around molding to keep pests out.



Rosemary Essential oil

Rosemary is another well kept secret. It can be used for everything from improving brain function and memory to relieving mental fatigue. It can also help to stimulate hair growth and thicken hair.

Just a few ways to use it …

  • Add a few drops into your shampoo & Conditioner to help grow and thicken your hair.
  • Stress, Anxiety, Clarity & Headache relief; add a drop to your hands, rub them together cup them over your mouth and inhale deep breathes.
  • Cough; Massage 1-2 drops over your chest and throat every few hours to help relieve.
  • Diffusing rosemary oil will help improve your learning and memory skills.
  • In the garden it’s also a natural insecticide. Add 10 drops of each; rosemary, peppermint, thyme and clove oil in a spray bottle filled with water and go to town!


Sandalwood Essential oil

Sandalwood’s aroma is like non of the others, it’s spicy and earthy aroma acts as a natural aphrodisiac. This oil improves energy levels, antiseptic, antispasmodic, astringent, sedative substance.

Just a few ways to use it …

  • Mental clarity; Sandalwood is frequently used for meditation, prayer or other spiritual rituals.
  • Natural aphrodisiac; can help to increase libido, especially for men and provide energy.
  • Astringent; many facial toners and after shaves use sadalwood as one of their primary ingredients to help soothe, tighten, and cleanse the skin.
  • Reduce’s inflammation from mild skin irritation such as superficial wounds, pimples, warts, or boils.
  • It’s anti-inflammatory agent provides relief from mild inflammation such as insect bites, contact irritations, or other skin conditions.
  • Sandalwood can be defused and used as a sleep aid as well by causing a calming effect.


Tea Tree Essential Oil

With it’s antibiotic, anti- fungal, antiseptic, expectorant, antiviral properties Tea tree oil is incredibly versatile. Tea tree oil can be used as an insect repellent, help speed the healing of a scar, and if you have a cough it can stimulate systemic functions. Its skin-soothing properties work wonders on rashes and owies.

Just a few ways to use it …

  • Apply 1 to 2 drops neat around the base of the ear to treat ear infections naturally.
  • Apply 1 drop oil on skin rashes to stop itching.
  • Add 1 to 2 drops to your homemade shampoo and hair rinse.
  • Add 5 drops to cleaning spray recipes to help kill germs.
  • Apply 2 to 3 drops diluted in 1 tablespoon coconut oil to toes and feet twice a day to stop athlete’s foot.
  • Kid safe!
